Umrah Steps & Benefits
The Magnetic Pull of Spiritual Connection
Umrah, often referred to as the “lesser pilgrimage,” holds profound spiritual significance for the Muslim Ummah, offering a transformative journey that transcends physical boundaries to touch the soul. Unlike Hajj, which is obligatory and time-bound, Umrah can be performed at any time of the year, making it a deeply personal and accessible act of devotion. For believers, it is a sacred opportunity to cleanse the heart, seek forgiveness, and reconnect with Allah in the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah. The experience of circling the Kaaba, walking between Safa and Marwah, and standing in prayer amidst millions of fellow Muslims fosters a profound sense of unity and humility. It is a reminder that, regardless of nationality, race, or status, all are equal in the eyes of the Creator. Beyond its spiritual rewards, Umrah also serves as a powerful catalyst for self-reflection, renewal, and gratitude, inspiring Muslims to return to their daily lives with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to their faith. In a world often divided by differences, Umrah stands as a timeless symbol of unity, devotion, and the eternal bond that ties the Muslim Ummah together.

Step by Step to Performing an Umrah
Umrah is an Islamic pilgrimage and is, in short, an act of worship of Allah (SWT). It is based on the teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and his Sunnah. The pilgrimage is a visit to the House of Allah (SWT) and can be carried out any time of the year. It is known as a ‘minor pilgrimage’ in comparison to the ‘greater pilgrimage’ of Hajj. However, it holds great value and virtue in the eyes of Allah (SWT).
1.INTENTION & IHRAM: Before you arrive at Makkah to begin Hajj, it’s important to make your intention (niyyah) within your heart. Next, you’ll enter into the state of Ihram (ritual purity). For men, this means wearing the designated white cloth with one piece wrapped around your shoulder and one around your waist. Ladies may wear any clothing of their choice but should ensure they observe the rules of Hijab.
2.RECITE THE TALBIYYAH: Men should recite this in a loud voice without disturbing others, while women should recite this softly.
*Labbayka llāhumma labbayk(a), labbayka lā sharīka laka labbayk(a), inna l-ḥamda wa n-ni’mata, laka wa l-mulk(a), lā sharīka lak.
3.TAWAF X 7: Tawaf is one of the principal rites of the pilgrimage and refers to walking in circles around the Kaa’bah in an anti-clockwise motion.
4.PRAYER AT MAQAM-E-IBRAHIM: Next offer two units of prayer behind or close to Maqam-e-Ibrahim without covering your head.
5.DRINK ZAMZAM WATER: Now proceed to drink Zamzam water. Face the Kaabah and drink it while standing. Whatever intention is made while drinking Zamzam is fulfilled.
6.SA’I: After you’ve performed your Tawaf, you’ll then perform what’s known as Sa’i (walking and running between the two hills of Safa and Marwa).
7.SHAVE/TRIM HAIR: A pilgrim must either get his hair shaved or trimmed after the Saeeh, (Halaq or Qasr) within the boundaries of the Haram.
